Deepa Sahi Biography
Deepa Sahi spent a short time in front of the camera before stepping back to produce movies.
Deepa Sahi, who comes from Dehradun, studied at the National School of Drama. She is married to film maker Ketan Mehta.
Making her debut with Govind Nihalani's Party (1984), Deepa Sahi went on to act in Aghaat (1985) and in the television film Tamas(1986). Tamas was based on a novel by Bhisham Sahni, set during the Partition of India.
She played Rajnikanth's wife in Hum (1991). Ketan Mehta's Maya Memsaab (1992) saw her with Shah Rukh Khan and was based on the novel Madame Bovary, about a woman whose discontent with her life pushes her into a world of fantasy and debts.
Sahi wrote Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India (1995). The movie was directed by Ketan Mehta and also starred Javed Jaffrey and Shah Rukh Khan. She played a Miss India in the movie. In 1997, she played a rich woman's secretary in Ketan Mehta's Aar Ya Paar (1997).
In 2001, she was seen onscreen as Champia in Tapan Sinha's Daughters of this Century along with Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan and Nandita Das.
Since 1993, she has produced many movies like Rules Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula and Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005) which saw an average performance at the box office. She also held the post of a CEO for Maya Entertainment in 2000.
She is the co-producer of Rang Rasiya (2009) which is written and directed by her husband Ketan Mehta.
