Mrs. Suvalakshmi Banerjee was born on 31st December 1969 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Her father K.C.Munshi is an Engineer. Her mother Mrs.Indranidevi is a housewife. She had a brother Subratha, who died in an accident. She did her schooling in Dolna Creche and Nursery School, South Point School. She completed her B.L. from South City College. She started to learn dance at the age of 3 from Suro Thirtha Dance School. She is an excellent dancer of Bharathanatyam, Mohiniattam, Kathak, Manipuri, and Odisi. She is named after the famous singer late M.S. Subbulakshmi. She got married to Mr. Swagato Banerjee.
Her beautiful features, homely looks fetched her Tamil debut film Aasai through director Vasanth. The film was a smash hit. She denied acting glamorous roles. Her second non glamorous film Gokulathil Seethai was a big success. The film gave recognition to her as an actress of potential. She made notable performances in films Love Today, Uttoran, Maayi, Iniyavale, Ezhaiyin Sirripil, and House Full. Her girl-next door looks made her an artiste of family audience. Though a Bengali, she can write and speak Tamil fluently. This Impressive actress left the filmdom after her marriage.
She was the recipient of the Best Actress Award for Aasai in 1995.
