Ramya Krishna (Telugu: రమ్య కృష్ణ) (born 15 September 1967) is an actress in who performs in Indian cinema. Early Life and Background Ramya Krishna was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh to a Telugu and Tamil couple.She had initial training in Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi dance forms, and had given many stage performances. Ramya started her acting career at the age of 13 and has an acting career spanning over 25 years. She first played the lead role in Vellai Manasu in Tamil opposite Y. Gee. Mahendra. She was studying in 9th standard when she acted in her first film. Career She has over 200 films to her credit in five languages, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Ramyakrishna’s first Telugu film was Bhalae Mithrulu. Kasinadhuni Viswanath’s Suthradharulu, released in 1987 Her Tamil film Padayappa (Narasimha in Telugu), was also released in Japan, Singapore, London and Paris. She won worldwide recognition for her role as Neelambari, the villain of the film. After Padayappa she has acted in Panchathanthiram, Paattali, Paarai, Vaanjinathan, Budget Pathmanaban, and Asathal. She also appeared in item numbers for the movies Rhythmand Kuthu as also in Hindi Films Khalnayak and Dayavan. She has given performance in some stage shows in New York, Dallas, San Jose, and Cincinnati. She also played roles of the Goddess in devotional films, notably Ammoru (Amman in Tamil), Rajakaliamman and Annai Kaligambal. She received a Nandi Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. One of her earliest movie roles was in the Kannada film Krishna Rukmini which has been followed with Gadibidi Ganda and Mangalyam Thanthunanaena and Raktha Kanneeru. Krishnan started a company in the name of her son ‘Ritwik’. She is now hosting the entertainment show “Zara Masti Zara Dhoom” by interviewing film personalities. Personal Life She married Telugu film director Krishna Vamsi on 12 June 2003 and has since then settled in Hyderabad. She gave birth to a boy, named Ritwik, in February 2005.
