She endured family tragedies when her 26-year-old brother committed suicide in 1997, and her mother was killed on a holy pilgrimage on the Himalayas in 1998. She is married, and mother of two: Aalia (1997) and Omar (2000).

Other causes she has supported include breast cancer awareness, street children, the world vision of India, and poverty housing with "Habitat for Humanity".

She returned to acting in films in Ek Ajnabee (2005), only to find that the scene had been deleted in the final cut. She was featured in a reality show, "Jhalak Dikhlaja" on Sony TV 2006, and developed a love for Latin American ballroom dance. Pooja was born to Protima (later re-christened as Gauri) and Kabir Bedi in Bombay, India. Her pet name is Booie, and she has a brother, Siddharth. She was brought up very unconventionally and literally allowed to have her own way as a child. It was for this reason that she initially abstained from cigarettes and alcohol.

After completing her school she was not granted admission in Bombay's Mithibai College on technical grounds, and her father enrolled both his children in L.A.. While Siddharth continued to live in the U.S., she was unhappy and decided to return back after being offered a role in Vishkanya by Jagmohan Mundra. Her father wanted to launch her in grand style, while her mom opposed this move, subsequently undertook Nrityagram and left her to fend for herself.
She starred in Bollywood movies from 1991 through to 1995, and acted in the 2005 movie Ek Ajnabee, only to find out that the scene had been deleted.
She married, Farhan Ebrahim, a Parsi-Muslim, her boyfriend of many years on May 6, 1994, converted to Islam, changed her name to Noorjahan, and subsequently gave birth to Aalia and Omar in 1997 and 2000 respectively. The marriage resulted in a divorce on Valentine's day in 2003.
On July 19, 1997 Siddharth, who had been diagnosed with Schizophrenia, killed himself. The family faced more tragedy when her mom was killed while on a holy pilgrimage on the Himalayas on August 18, 1998.
She was one of the participants in Bigg Boss 5 but was voted out on November 26, 2011.
She has taken part in theater, written books, especially on child care; has been an interior decorator; and now is a TV host for 'Not Just Page 3", and 'Just Pooja"; brand ambassador of Kaya Skin Clinic, and Country Club India, apart from being a single mother of two.
