Laya
Laya (Telugu: లయ) is a Telugu film actress and a Kuchipudi dancer. She entered the Telugu film industry in a movie called “Swayam Varam” along with another popular actor, Venu. She had acted in about 40 Telugu, Tamiland Malayalam films. Her debut film as child actor is Bhadram Koduko in 1992.

Early Life and Career

Laya is born in Vijayawada in the South-Eastern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and had settled later as classical dancer in Hyderabad. She is a B.Tech in Computer Science from V.R.Siddhartha Engineering College. She performed more than 50 stage shows before getting married to a doctor in Hyderabad and emigrating to the USA. Her mother was a music teacher in a school and her father a doctor.

Lakshmi Rai Biography 

Lakshmi Rai is a well known Indian actress and former model, who appears in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. She has been honored with several awards at the Asianet Film Awars and Mathrubhumi Amrita Film Awards. Lakshmi Rai was born on May 5, 1989 in Belgaum, Karnataka.

Lakshmi has successfully worked as a model prior to joining the South Indian film industry. She has featured in print advertisements and TV commercials for various brands including Sylcon Footwears, Josco Jewellers and Emmanuel Silks, among others. Lakshmi Rai made her cinematic debut in R. V. Udayakumar’s 2005 release Tamil film ‘Karka Kasadara’ opposite superstar Vikranth. Dhe earned positive reviews for her performance and was subsequently seen in Telugu film ‘Kanchanamala Cable TV’.

Since then, Lakshmi Rai has appeared in many Tamil films including ‘Kundakka Mandakka’ opposite Parthiban, ‘Azhagiya Aabathu’, Perarasu’s action flick ‘Dharampuri’ opposite Vijaykanth, ‘Nenjai Thodu’ opposite Gemini and ‘Ragasiya Snehithane’. She starred alongside Prithviraj, Gopika and Prakash Raj in Viji’s Tamil drama film ‘Vellitherai’ released in 2008. Lakshmi Rai was seen in a significant role with Jayam Ravi and National Award winning Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut in Jeeva’s romantic- action Tamil film ‘Dhaam Dhoom’.



Lakshmi Rai was appreciated for her performance in actor turned director Srinath’s mega hit thriller ‘Muthirai’ also starring Nithin Sathya, Daniel Balaji and debutante Manjari Phadnis. Her other successful Tamil films include I Ahmed’s ‘Vaamanan’ alongside Jai and Priya Anand, Selva’s ‘Naan Avanillai 2 ‘ alongside Jeevan, Sangeetha, Shweta Menon and Shruthi Prakash. She was recently seen in Simbudevan’s contemporary Tamil film ‘Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam’. The film starred choreographer turned actor Lawrence Raghavendra, Lakshmi Rai Sandhya and Padmapriya in lead roles.

Lakshmi Rai won the Asianet Award for Best Female New Face of the Year for her debut Malayalam film ‘Rock & Roll’. Directed by Renjith, ‘Rock & Roll’ starred Mohanlal and Lakshmi Rai as the lead pair. The film was based on the story of six Chennai based musicians and won huge appreciation for its soundtrack. Lakshmi soon became a well known name in the Malayalam film industry and appeared opposite superstar Mammootty in Anwar Rasheed‘s ‘Annan Thambi’ and M. Padmakumar‘s ‘Parunthu’.

Lakshmi Rai was later seen in the mega hit and critically appreciated film ‘2 Harihar Nagar’ directed by P N Venugopal. The film is second in the series preceded by ‘In Harihar Nagar’ and succeeded by ‘In Ghost House Inn’. Besides Lakshmi Rai, the film starred Mukesh, Jagadish, Siddique and Ashokan in lead roles. She also starred in its sequel, titled ‘In Ghost House Inn’ directed by Lal.

Lakshmi Rai played the female lead opposite Mohanlal in award winning ‘Evidam Swargamanu’ directed by Rosshan Andrrews. Lakshmi won the Most Popular Actress- Asianet Film Awards and Amrita Mathrubhumi Awards for ‘Evidam Swargamanu’. The film won several awards including Best Popular Film at the Kerala State film Awards, Best Film at the Atlas State Film Critics Award, Best Film at the Kairali TV - World Malayali Council Film Award, among many others. Lakshmi also won the Mathrubhumi-Amrita Most Popular Actress Award for Shafi’s ‘Chattambinaadu’ alongside Mammootty.

Lakshmi Rai has also worked in a couple of Telugu and Kannada films. Her forthcoming films include ‘Christian Brothers’, ‘Makeup Man’, ‘Casanova’ and ‘Yodha 2’ in Malayalam. She will also be seen in Hindi romantic comedy film ‘Tere Bina Jiya Nahin Jaye’ alongside Himesh Reshammiya and Shruti Aggarwal.
